  • Can my child do a trial first before committing?
Yes. your child is welcome to come for a trial session before committing. Please get in touch on thcjnrmembership@gmail.com for more information.
  • What age group should my child join?
The age group is worked out according to school year, as of 1 September. We working in 2-year increments - U6, U8, U10 etc. If, for example, your child is 11 years old on 1 September, he/she will be in the U12 age group. If your child has already turned 12 on 1 September, then he/she will go into U14 group.
  • When are the training sessions?
Please refer to the training schedules for Sunday and mid-week training: Junior Teams.
  • Do I have to attend both mid-week and Sunday sessions?
It's preferable, especially if your child is hoping to play competively in matches against other teams, but not mandatory. Generally most children really enjoy their mid week training too.
  • What kit does the player need?
A gumshield and shin pads are mandatory at all times. Without these a player will not be allowed on the pitch, not even for a trial. If playing in club matches, we ask that players have a numbered THC shirt (and THC socks are nice to have too). Most players also play with their own stick (see below for details on stick loan and advice before you buy). THC official stick supplier is Mercian, available from The Hockey Centre and other good retailers. Beyond that, a player will need good trainers or astro shoes, shorts/skort, and warm underlayer for cold days.
  • Can I borrow a stick?
Yes. Most children prefer to get their own stick once they start playing hockey regularly but spares are always available at the club for those who don't have their own. If you need advice on buying a stick and/or sizing please speak to one of the coaches.
  • Can I pay in instalments?
Membership fees are for the whole season, and payable at the start of the season. In certain circumstances we will support players by arranging payment in instalments.
  • Is there financial support available?
In certain circumstances, we will support players by reducing membership fees and providing help with sports equipment. Please contact the relevant section's membership manager for further information.
  • Is there a sibling discount?
No. At this stage we do not offer a sibling discount.
  • Can I get a refund if I stop mid-season?
No. Membership fees are a one-off payment for the whole season, and not refundable, as most of the club's expenses are fixed costs.
  • Is there a discount for not attending midweek?
No. Membership fees are a one-off payment for the whole season.
  • Can my child join mid-season?
Yes, your child can join at any time. Fees can be calculated depending on when you join in the season.
  • Why do I need to register on Teamo?
All players and their guardians (if under 18 years) need to be registered on Teamo. This is the most effective way for us to communicate with all players and guardians in the most relevant and GDPR compliant way. We can inform you about everything that's going on at the club, as well as training, match fixtures (and results) and events specific to your team, incl. checking availability and advising team selections. All payments are made via the app too.
